Opening Prayer:

**Opening Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy 262

** Invocation: I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness extends to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.

**Call to Worship: 2 Samuel 22:29-37

M: For You are my lamp, O Lord; The Lord shall enlighten my darkness.

C: For by You I can run against a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.

M: As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

C:For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?

M: God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect.

C: He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.

M: He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

C: You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;

M:Your gentleness has made me great.

C: You enlarged my path under me; So my feet did not slip.

Reading of the Law: Exodus 20:1-17

**Prayer of Confession: Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and sober life. To the Glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

Sermon Outline

I. Old Testament Proof of the Doctrine

II New Testament Proof of the Doctrine

III. Importance of the Doctrine

262 Holy, Holy, Holy

1 Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,

casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3 Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,

though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,

only thou art holy; there is none beside thee

perfect in pow'r, in love, and purity.

4 Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

264 Praise Ye The Triune God

1 Praise ye the Father for His loving-kindness,

tenderly caring for His erring children;

praise Him, ye angels; praise Him in the heavens;

praise to the Savior!

2 Praise ye the Savior for His deep compassion,

graciously caring for His chosen people;

young men and maidens, ye old men and children,

praise to the Savior!

3 Praise ye the Spirit, Comforter of Israel,

sent from the Father and the Son to bless us;

praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!

Praise to the triune God!

267 Come Thou Almighty King

1 Come, thou Almighty King,

help us thy name to sing,

help us to praise.

Father, all glorious,

o'er all victorious,

come and reign over us,

Ancient of Days.

2 Come, thou Incarnate Word,

gird on thy mighty sword,

scatter thy foes.

Let thine almighty aid

our sure defense be made,

our souls on thee be stayed;

thy wonders show.

3 Come, Holy Comforter,

thy sacred witness bear

in this glad hour.

Thou who almighty art,

now rule in ev'ry heart,

and ne'er from us depart,

Spirit of power.

4 To the great One in Three

eternal praises be,

hence evermore.

His sov'reign majesty

may we in glory see,

and to eternity

love and adore

268 God, Our Father, We Adore Thee

1 God, our Father, we adore Thee!

We, Thy children, bless Thy name!

Chosen in the Christ before Thee,

we are "holy, without blame."

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Abba's praises we proclaim!

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Abba's praises we proclaim!

2 Son Eternal, we adore Thee!

Lamb upon the throne on high!

Lamb of God, we bow before Thee,

Thou hast brought Thy people nigh!

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Son of God, who came to die!

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Son of God, who came to die!

3 Holy Spirit, we adore Thee!

Paraclete and heavenly guest!

Sent from God and from the Savior,

Thou hast led us into rest.

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

by Thy grace forever blest.

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

by Thy grace forever blest.

4 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

Three in One! we give Thee praise!

For the riches we inherit,

heart and voice to Thee we raise!

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Thee we bless through endless days!

We adore Thee! we adore Thee!

Thee we bless through endless days!

Old Testament Reading:

Psalm 113

1Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, Praise the name of the Lord! 2Blessed be the name of the Lord From this time forth and forevermore! 3From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord’s name is to be praised. 4The Lord is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens. 5Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high, 6Who humbles Himself to behold The things that are in the heavens and in the earth? 7He raises the poor out of the dust, And lifts the needy out of the ash heap, 8That He may seat him with princes—With the princes of His people. 9He grants the [b]barren woman a home, Like a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!
